My name is January Hartze, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology, and from Ottawa University Phoenix with a Masters in Professional Counseling. I am Board Certified with the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), am an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant, an EMDR Institute Facilitator, Arizona Board registered clinical supervisor and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA).
My approach to counseling is compassionate and supportive, and through the therapeutic process we are able to identify and utilize your strengths to gain new skills in a safe and encouraging environment. I am trained in several treatment modalities which allows us to blend elements from different theories and interventions to customize our approach based on your needs and goals. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and modified Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) among many other therapy modalities to address issues and difficulties that prevent a person from reaching their potential. Using evidenced-based treatments, I strive to be a light in the lives of my clients and provide them with insights and tools that will help them to accomplish their goals.
It is important to counsel the whole person: mind, body, and spirit in a trusting and nonjudgmental environment, and the therapeutic relationship is an integral part of the healing process. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance. My background in business continued for many years before making the decision to switch into mental health and pursue a graduate degree in clinical mental health counseling at Northern Arizona University. This change towards counseling came as the result of my authentic passion and devotion for quality mental healthcare. I am thrilled to be on this path and look forward to sharing this journey with you.

My interest in helping youth populations within the mental health field was sparked during my undergraduate studies while working at a children’s summer camp at ASU. This passion was further fueled through my role as a paraprofessional at an elementary school, where I assisted students aged 5-12 with behavioral, developmental, emotional, and academic needs. What is EMDR therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies.
